More information is at: https://freeartsaz.org/. \nTHE CONCEPT OF THE AUCTION \nThe original Chinese Auction was conceived in 1982 by the Arizona Chapter of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International.  This event has gained national recognition and has been adopted by numerous HSMAI and MPI chapters through the U.S. as their major fundraiser. \nThe auction was originally given the Chinese theme due to the location of the event – the former China Doll Restaurant in Phoenix. Over the years\, the auction has grown and has moved its location to larger venues. The Chinese theme has remained. \nThe idea of the auction is to provide each guest with a list of prizes (such as dinners\, golf outings\, gift baskets\, services\, and hotel/resort stays) and a numbered stick. Each table is supplied with a bucket that is placed in the middle. Starting with the number one item\, the auctioneer describes that item and asks the guests who are interested in bidding on this item to toss a quarter or quarters in the bucket. The guest then holds their stick in the air. The auctioneer calls out the numbers that are held up. A gonger (who cannot see or hear what is going on) is responsible for hitting the gong after a few seconds. The last number called out when the gong rings has won that prize and goes to the stage to claim it. This sequence of events goes on throughout the evening until all prizes are gone. Over the years\, a silent and live auction have also been added to the event. \nThis event has won numerous awards including “Stars of the Industry” Awards from the Arizona Lodging & Tourism Association\, “Awards of Excellence in Association Management” from the Arizona Society of Association Executives and several HSMAI International Awards. \nIn 2022\, the name of our event was changed to be more diverse and inclusive\, but  the year of the Chinese Zodiac and the Asian theme remain. \nCome ready to have a great time. This is the perfect event to also bringfamily members\, friends\, and co-workers.\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ON-LINE \nCLICK HERE TO DONATE A PRIZE ON-LINE \nCLICK HERE FOR A PRINTABLE INVITATION \nCLICK HERE FOR AN PRINTABLE AUCTION DONOR FORM \nCLICK HERE FOR  A PRINTABLE DONOR LETTER

We have a number of options for service including delivery and full service catering making it possible to serve groups and budgets of all sizes. Our Steaks & BBQ restaurants are not only famous for their delicious food\, but also their fast and personable service\, which you will receive both whether it is dining in or at a venue of your choice. \nThe story about Bobby-Q BBQ Restaurants starts with the Owner and Founder. \nWhether you know him as Bobby Q\, Bobby McGee\, Mr. Lucky or even Mabel Murphy\, there’s no denying that Bob Sikora is a legendary restaurateur. \nLong before he fired up his first slow smoker here at Bobby Q’s\, this Phoenix native was palling around with the likes of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson\, and opening restaurants from here to Hawaii. And to think\, it all started when a 15-year-old Sikora dropped out of school to take a job as a fry cook at one of the first franchised McDonald’s in Phoenix. \nAt the age of 20\, Sikora opened his first restaurant – Bobby’s Pancake Stand. Here\, he gained the experience to open more restaurants\, many of which were beer and burger joints or small coffee shops. \nIn 1966\, Sikora opened Mr. Lucky’s\, a 19\,000 square foot live music venue\, featuring prominent acts of the day like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Bobby McGee’s opened in 1971. The popular nightspot featured a first for the Valley\, prerecorded music played by a DJ. At the time\, only clubs in Los Angeles and New York were using similar technology. \nBobby McGee’s became so popular Sikora eventually had to start turning people away. That led to the creation of Mabel Murphy’s in Scottsdale in 1972. It was a Euro dance club that was before its time but helped hold over the crowds from Bobby McGee’s. \nEventually Bobby McGee’s proved so popular that Sikora expanded it to 24 units\, ranging from Australia and Honolulu to Charlotte. Most recently\, he scoured the United States\, traveling coast to coast searching for great barbecue. From Tennessee to Kansas to California\, he has tasted every possible variation and style of barbecue. More information is at https://bobbyqbbq.com/about-us/ \n \nREGISTER NOW!\n

Hicks\, a distinguished hospitality leader with more than 30 years of international experience\, steps into this role as only the fifth CEO in HSMAI’s nearly 100-year history\, marking a new chapter in the organization’s legacy of leadership. His proven track record of driving growth\, innovation\, and leadership across major hotel brands and regions positions him well to continue building upon the foundation laid by the late Bob Gilbert\, who served as President and CEO for 30 years. \nHicks’ appointment comes at a pivotal time for HSMAI as the organization continues to expand its global presence and deepen its impact on the hospitality industry’s commercial disciplines. With extensive experience spanning operations\, commercial strategy\, and revenue management\, Hicks’ leadership will further strengthen HSMAI’s commitment to advancing the sales\, marketing\, and revenue management disciplines across the industry. He assumes leadership of the HSMAI Americas\, Foundation and Global entities. \n“Bob Gilbert’s legacy is reflected in the incredible talent we considered during this process\, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. After an extensive search with many exceptional candidates\, we are excited to welcome Brian Hicks as our new CEO\,” said Andrew Rubinacci\, Chief Advisory Officer at FLYR Hospitality\, Chair\, HSMAI Americas. “Brian’s global experience\, having worked and lived in multiple regions\, aligns perfectly with HSMAI’s continued international growth. His deep involvement with HSMAI\, both on the board and advisory levels in the Americas and Europe\, makes him uniquely qualified to guide us into the future.” \nHicks began his hospitality career after earning a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He joined The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company in Atlanta\, Georgia\, and subsequently transitioned to IHG Hotels and Resorts\, where he held multiple leadership roles across Europe\, the Middle East\, Asia\, and the Americas. His innovative contributions\, such as launching IHG’s “revenue management for hire” program and establishing the first in-market revenue center for managed hotels in New York City\, have solidified his reputation as a forward-thinking strategist. \nHis leadership journey also includes a stint as Chief Operating Officer of TMI Hospitality\, a Starwood Capital subsidiary\, where he oversaw 185 hotels across 25 states. Following TMI’s acquisition by Aimbridge Hospitality\, Hicks returned to IHG\, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Commercial & Revenue Management for the Americas. \nAs a long-time supporter and active member of HSMAI\, Hicks has served on various advisory boards\, including the HSMAI Europe Revenue Management Advisory Board\, the Americas Revenue Management Advisory Board\, and the Americas Board of Directors. \n“I’m honored to lead this remarkable association\, which has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of so many hospitality professionals\,” said Brian Hicks. “As I step into this role\, I’m both humbled and inspired by the strong foundation Bob Gilbert established. Together\, we share a deep passion for this industry\, and I look forward to continuing the mission of supporting our members and making a lasting impact on their careers.” \nRegister Now! \n\nABOUT OUR HOST VENUE:\n\n \nEmbassy Suites Phoenix-Biltmore is located in the prestigious Biltmore area\, a major hub for business\, shopping\, dining\, and nightlife. For most of its nearly 100-year history\, the club represented the pinnacle of Arizona resort and country club lifestyle. Through recent significant capital investments and visionary leadership\, JDM Partners has restored Arizona Biltmore Golf Club to its proper place among the state’s premier golf facilities. \nTo accomplish this task\, the restoration strategy completely reimagined the original Adobe Course with a fresh new design by PGA TOUR legend Tom Lehman\, renaming it the Estates Course. The Links Course has been given new life thanks to the hard work of the club’s new agronomy and maintenance team. The owners have also built a vibrant new golf shop to better serve the members and guests of Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. With the opening of the spectacular new clubhouse\, the club’s metamorphosis will take another step toward achieving its goals. \nThe Adobe Bar & Grille is also now open\, with indoor/outdoor seating\, multiple screens throughout\, fire pit seating\, water features and a family-friendly setting overlooking the golf course and views toward the ever-expanding Phoenix skyline\, the mountains and beautiful Arizona sunsets. More information at: https://www.thecamby.com/ \n \n\n\nABOUT OUR  CHARITY\n \nMitchell Swaback Charities\, Inc. (AZ) is a 20-year-old\, volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that fully funds and operates Harvest Compassion Centers (HCC). It all began with one family who wanted to impact strangers in memory of the tragic loss of a son and brother\, Mitch Swaback. During the post-recession days of 2009\, MSC leaders saw an opportunity to serve our local kids with basic life necessities that would improve their overall health\, well-being\, and future. \nHCC was launched in 2011 to immediately serve the needs of children and their families through our ‘Food Banking Reimagined’ model. Our goals are simple: reduce food insecurity for children and families living in poverty\, improve their overall quality of life in the home\, and improve their school readiness and academic achievements. ‘Food Banking Reimagined’ merges mini grocery stores\, high-end clothing boutiques\, and kids’ play corners\, all into one. One in five children in Maricopa County are going to bed hungry. HCC’s North Phoenix/Scottsdale\, West Phoenix\, and Maryvale locations are feeding over 19\,000 families annually\, including over 50\,000 local children. Our centers are located in generationally poor neighborhoods\, where median incomes are below state poverty levels\, 98% receive SNAP benefits\, and 99% receive free school meals. HCC embodies a commitment to providing clients with an exceptional shopping experience\, emphasizing authentic connections\, and cultivating genuine client relationships\, while also being dedicated to sharing referral services\, creating lasting\, impactful change! \nHCC’s ‘Food Banking Re-imagined’ program is our flagship initiative\, operating at three locations: North Phoenix/Scottsdale\, West Phoenix\, and Maryvale. Our centers focus on serving the working poor\, underinsured\, underemployed\, and minority populations—individuals and families facing significant economic challenges. These include those working multiple jobs\, combined households living under one roof\, and multi-generational families struggling to make ends meet. In Maricopa County\, 64% of families live below the poverty line\, with one in five children going to bed hungry. \nAs the economic fallout from the pandemic continues\, young children remain among the most vulnerable. HCC aims to combat local food insecurity rates\, addressing the critical needs of disadvantaged families and helping close achievement gaps that disproportionately affect these communities. Our ‘Food Banking Re-imagined’ model is designed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for underemployed and underrepresented families of diverse backgrounds. With no income or geographical restrictions\, we provide free access to healthy food\, essential hygiene products\, proper clothing\, and baby necessities to all who come through our doors. \nThis program operates entirely free for clients and does not receive government food products or funding. Families may visit once every 30 days and receive additional support\, including community referrals\, prayer\, encouragement\, and hope. Our commitment goes beyond meeting immediate needs; we walk alongside our clients\, instilling independence\, confidence\, and a drive toward self-sustainability. Witnessing their journey toward success is a privilege and a testament to the transformative impact of our work. \nA typical client at HCC is a low-income family with an average household size of six. Often\, one adult works multiple jobs while another provides full-time care for young children or elderly relatives. For instance\, Maria and Jorge\, a Phoenix couple\, live in a cramped two-bedroom apartment with their four children and Maria’s elderly parents. Jorge works two jobs\, and Maria manages the home and cares for the family. Financial hardships force them to prioritize bills over essentials like food and clothing. HCC is honored to support families like Maria and Jorge\, providing them with monthly groceries\, hygiene products\, and seasonal clothing. \nIn 2024\, HCC’s impact was the following: Fed and clothed 19\,028 families with 600\,000 pounds of food\, hygiene and baby product\, distributed 118\,106 pieces of laundered clothing\, over 10\,000 Christmas toys were distributed to 3\,007 kids during the month of December\, 124\,600 diapers and baby wipes were distributed by 1\,966 volunteers who donated 17\,496 hours of service. \n\nTHE CONCEPT OF THE AUCTION\nThe original Chinese Auction was conceived in 1982 by the Arizona Chapter of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. \nCome ready to have a great time.\nThis is the perfect event to also bring\nfamily members\, friends\, and co-workers.\nWE ARE OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT FOR OUR 42ND ANNUAL EVENT!\nIf you would like to be placed on a wait list\, please e-mail Joanne at admin@hsmai-az.org.\nCLICK HERE TO DONATE A PRIZE ON-LINE \nCLICK HERE FOR A PRINTABLE INVITATION \nCLICK HERE FOR AN PRINTABLE AUCTION DONOR FORM \nCLICK HERE FOR  A PRINTABLE DONOR LETTER
